Anna's House, an historical
cottage,
located in Gilbert, Arkansas, was built in 1921 by the Bing Family. The
village of Gilbert, located on the Buffalo River began life as a
railroad town. The railroad is long gone, but Gilbert has found a second
life, as a focal point for visitors to the Buffalo National River.
Anna's House was purchased in 1984 by Wendel and Liz Norton and restored with use by visitors to the Buffalo River in mind. The house, which is air conditioned, is furnished for your complete enjoyment, including original contemporary artwork, by Wendel Norton.
The modern kitchen comes fully stocked with kitchen necessities. Anna's House has 4 bedrooms furnished with 2 king, 2 queen, 3 double,and a twin bed. Also available are extra matresses that can be set on the floor. Anna's House can accomidate up to twenty visitors making it the perfect location for family reunions. The deck in the back of the house features a grill and is the ideal place to relax after the days activities. All towels and linens are furnished. Anna's house is the perfect headquarters for a visit to the Buffalo River. The famous Gilbert gravel bar, and swimming hole is a short stroll away. Enjoy fishing, swimming or lose yourself in the sound of the river as it flows on by. Of course you'll want to float the Buffalo. It's famous for it's towering limestone bluffs, springfed water, and abundant wildlife. Several canoe rentals are near by, and can provide you with canoes, as well as transportation to and from the river ( reservations may be required, we will be glad to recomend a canoe rental) The Ozark Highland Trail passes right through downtown Gilbert. It is well marked, and features gentle grades. A popular short hike is to pick up the trail in Gilbert and follow it downstream parallel with the river to the old railroad trestle at Red Bluff. Anna's house is also located within an easy, scenic, drive of many North Arkansas attractions.
